I’m looking to switch over from Windows to a 2015 Macbook and work large, demanding programs in Logic.

While there are large differences between multi-core benchmark scores between i7-5557u Macbooks and i7-4980HQ Macbooks, can anyone attest to the i7-4980HQ actually performing better under heavy loads of video, audio, or image editing?

I own both the 13 inch and 15inch 2015 MacBook Pros, with the former having the i7-5557U and the latter having the 4870HQ (which is similar to the 4980HQ), both with 16GB RAM. However, I am afraid I do not do heavy duty creative work on them.

My subjective experience is that the i7-5557U is a little under-powered once you go beyond MS Office-type work. The 13 inch form factor is really nice and the laptop is otherwise great (it's my go-to machine for typing, which is my main activity), but when I switch to the 15 inch MacBook Pro it feels a lot more responsive and seems to not get bogged down by multitasking.

I also have a 2017 12 inch i5 MacBook for travel (and just travel - I really hate that keyboard) and am struck how similar the performance of that feels to the 13 inch - it's really in that ballpark, whereas the 15 inch MacBook is in a different league performance-wise.

All of this is subjective, but for heavy duty work I think the 15 inch is absolutely the way to go.
