Definition of Notification:
"the action of notifying someone or something".

Since your Notification Centre is empty, it means you are up to date with your notifications.

Notification Centre will populate with items as and when notifications from apps are available.
Try opening the Mail app and seeing if it will populate it.

Mhmmm... I received several E-mails, a few messages and telephone calls this morning. Result: two emails shown in notification center, not even the most recent ones.
I assume that all last 5 activites should be listed in the notification center, since I chose in the setting to show the last five items.

What do I understand wrong?

Try sorting notifications "Manually".
