Even the clocks dont display properly. I reset PRAM and SMC and nothing. anyone else with this issue? any fixes? appreciate any help.

UPDATE: Resoolved with the following solution

wanted to leave what worked for me to fix this and hope it helps anyone who might be faced with the same issue: Also, there was an additional problem where beachball would show up whenver i right clicked on safari and itunes didnt open at all either.

I went to the console app to see, today extension for itunes kept crashing, uninstalling and reinstalling. So figured itunes was the culpirt. So i reinstalled itunes on my mac from the apple website (make sure to delete itunes first using terminal command - "sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/

AFter resintalling itunes and rebooting the machine, VOILA! it works like a charm on both machines. Hope this helps someone
