Notification Center should have been part of Dashboard

I know this may not be a popular opinion, and it's not that I don't enjoy Notification Center as it is, but I think it should have been part of Dashboard, rather than a separate thing (I'm talking about Dashboard as an overlay, not when it's set to operate as a separate Space).

I mean think about it. Both are something that you can pull up over whatever you're doing on any screen. Look at the Tweet and Post to Facebook buttons… those don't really make logical sense in Notification Center, but would make perfect sense as a Dashboard widget or widgets. In fact, people are already calling them widgets, and asking for more widgets, including a weather one. These things already exist in Dashboard! And Dashboard provides more room and flexibility than NC. Why do we need Dashboard AND Notification Center? It just seems redundant. The NC could function perfectly fine as either a widget or a permanent part of the Dashboard screen.

What do you guys think?

Not to mention how rolling the two together could help reinvigorate the Dashboard scene (along with including widgets in the App Store). Ars had an article recently about the potential for Dashboard to get reinvigorated with App Store inclusion.

I agree with the opinions here. I think having Notification Center and Dashboard as separate things is a big confusing.

One thing I can add is that in iOS, Notifications seems to accomplish the same thing that Dashboard does in OSX. The Notifications drawer can show a Weather widget, a stock ticket widget, etc. Where is this for Notification Center in ML? Oh, those widgets are in Dashboard... Why not in Notification Center then?

If I could park a few weather widgets, a calendar, a sports score widget, and a delivery tracker widget in Notification Center, I would have no need for Dashboard at all.

OP: You and most others are missing the "whole" grand scheme of Apple's new direction with OSX. (Even after 2 iterations now).

If you put notifications in say the dashboard (which is really a good idea)... then OSX will not have that iOS look and feel. It's really as simple as that. OSX Lion/ML has a new way of doing things even if we don't like them.

Just like one day I could select my Apps in Expose with the keyboard but then the next day I couldn't. And on that same day, I couldn't manage dual monitors or spaces (desktops) like I used to.

But glory be... at least now I can swipe my ass off watching cool animations and crap fly by (between seizures and dizziness).

Dashboard is an overlay

Look at the drop shadow with NC, it highlights that NC is "below" the surface and not something that overlays or slides into view which is why I think NC in iOS should be slightly modified.

Not for those of us who routinely disable Dashboard as our first order of business when we buy a new Mac.
