Notification Center widgets still have dark background

Several of my Notification Center widgets in Sierra still have the "dark" OS X 10.11 background, including Carrot Weather, World Clock Widget, and Currencier.

Do developers specifically have to update Notification Center widgets to have the new "frosted white" macOS Sierra background?

Yes, they do. I think they (as I) were holding out hope that Apple would do the right thing and bring back the dark version.

That certainly would be the right thing. I haven't developed any widgets, but at least it's apparent it's under their… control somehow. Yes, Mac developers?

I use the package tracking app/widget Deliveries and it has the dark grey and white text now with Sierra. I emailed the dev. and asked about an update to make it match the default Apple app colors and he replied they are working on an app update to address this. So yes, it appears to be something devs. can fix.

Apple replaced the corresponding API for the ‘vibrancy’ effect and made the old one obsolete. Apps need to specifically adopt this new API to get the new look; the OS doesn’t do this automatically. Thus these widgets are simply not up to date.
