Hi,

Every time a notification comes in the Notification icon in my menu bar disappears. I can still click in the blank space and it fires up my Notifications tab and the icon reappears until the next one comes in. To be fair, this is not new to Yosemite it used to occur under Mountain Lion too, but with notifications becoming a bigger part of OS X this is starting to get annoying. My icon is on the rightmost of my menu bar, I run Bartender but it occurs with or without BT running.

First of all has this ever happened to you? Second, any idea how I might go about fixing it because I don't have a clue? I thought I might try to find where the icon is stored in OS X and muck around with it but I couldn't figure out where it is saved.

Thanks.

I haven't had that problem. The problem i do have is notification center stops working all together, i have a few websites including this one set up to notify me of new content. it works until i put my machine to sleep or restart it or shut it down. Notifications are no longer persistent and it is highly annoying.

Revival!

I'm nerco'ing this thread as I'm still having the EXACT same issue as OP on 10.10.2 - I've been having it since 10.9 and haven't come up with an answer.

One common denominator - On every machine where I've had the trouble, I'm always running Bartender - The System Icon manager... This however cannot be the culprit because I also run Bartender on machines where I have NONE of the issues with Notification Center.

The other thing is that it always seems to effect my mobile Macs (I've observed the problem on both my 2012 MacBook Air 11 and my 2014 MacBook Pro Retina 13). Meanwhile 2 iMacs (2011 21" and Late 2013 27") and a 15" 2012 MacBook Pro have NEVER had the problem with both 10.9 and 10.10.

?? !! ?? I'm as perplexed as you are. Let me know if you're still having this problem or if you've somehow managed to solve it. Lets figure this one out together if need be.

Hi,

No, never figured it out. I have a new iMac and have never installed Bartender on it and I don't have a problem with the Notification icon disappearing. I am almost positive it's a bug in Bartender, it does some pretty low level stuff, which is why it can't be sold in the App Store. I contacted the author of Bartender willing to help track down the problem but despite several messages he never replied, so the support is total rubbish.

I think the only way to resolve it at this stage is a full re-install of OS X because I think BT has totally screwed with something.

Let me know if you ever get any further.

Just installed Bartender 1.2.32 on my riMac. Notification icon disappears again. Contacted the author again. It really hacks me off that the author is so crap he can't even be bothered to respond to support requests, frustrating when he charges so darn much for his software.

This bug has now been present for several years and updates of OS X and Bartender so if you're a new user considering buying don't ever expect it to be fixed.

The messed up thing? It ALWAYS happens on my mobile Mac... Be it my MacBook Air 11 or my new MacBook Pro Retina 13. My iMac is NEVER affected.

I've been in contact with the developers and they always seem to think it will be resolved in the next release... Each. And. Every. Time. I await this fix. I have even gone as far last year as to erase and reinstall everything!

If anyone gets any word please let us know. My poor SystemUIServer.plist file can't take another deletion...!

Well, since my previous post the developer got in contact with me and I was helping out. He thinks he has fixed it now (but we have heard that before). It appears to be related to the flashing ':' in the OS X clock, try turning that off it's worked for me. He says the next version of BT will have the fix. No idea why it took years to figure that out but there you go.

Version 1.2.39 of Bartender appears to have fixed the problem.
