Notification sounds not working on iPhone when Apple Watch is connected

Is anyone facing an issue where notification sounds on the phone aren't working when wearing an Apple Watch? Since iOS 17, I've noticed that most of my apps don't play any notification sounds even with my volume/ringer on. Telegram, iMessage, and Facebook Messenger all don't play their sounds when I'm wearing my Apple Watch. As soon as I take my watch off and put it on its charger, the sounds on my phone play.

Has anyone seen this and found a workaround? This is super frustrating that none of the alert sounds are working. iPhone 15 pro max and Apple Watch ultra both running the latest iOS version if that matters....Thanks!

If the notifications are appearing on your watch, this is the intended behavior and has been like, forever. The only notifications that should appear (and sound) on your watch while wearing it, are the ones that you have chosen not to mirror to the watch. Hope this helps.

Mirror aside, if phone is locked, notifications go to the Watch. Phone unlocked, notifications happen there.
