Notification trouble on iP4 and iP4S with iMessage

I updated my husbands iP4 with OS 5 and I have a new iP4S neither one gets any sound, badge, notification or any indication that an imessage text has come in. When my son sends a regular text message all that works. We have notifications turned on in settings.
I also updated my iPad1 to OS 5 and the notifications work for iMessage there just not on the iPhones.

I think iMessage is having some growing pains this weekend. My iPhone is getting all of my iMessages but only some of them are going to the iPad. But SOME of them are, so I know it's finally set up right. Also, sometimes they show up in the expected chat window I've always used with a particular contact and sometimes they create a new one.

I'd give it a few more days, as long as you've checked your settings and they all appear correct.

I figured this out. We share an apple ID for iTunes purchases and I had set iMessage up with the same ID for both of us. I made some separate iCloud IDs for us and set up iMessage with our individual @me.com emails and it works now.
Just in case this helps anyone else.
