Since upgrading from to my 15PM, email & text notifications have been extremely loud. Nothing I've found seems to help.
Any have ideas on fixing this?

Each time I get an email, text (SMS/iMess/WA/etc) the ping is so loud it makes me jump. (my other app's notifications are mostly off.)

I tried turning the 15PM off>on, but still happening.

There is no separate volume control for notifications AFAICT. This is so annoying that surely it's a bug. 🤷‍♂️

Ok well I fiddled with the "Ringtones & Alerts" volume slider a few times more, then rebooted phone again.
Now back to normal.

Weird.

I'm having this issue as well on 15 Pro Max.

If I turn the volume down to about 10% in Settings > Sounds & Haptics, then lock and unlock a few times, the lock sound gradually gets back to full volume again.

Rebooting doesn't seem to fix it.

Mine's back too! Dunno solution, so maybe the next update may fix it. 🤷‍♂️

I have this too.

Slider for ringtones and alerts is low, but still alerts are far too loud.

It's time Apple gives us better control with separate volume controls for alert types (normal alerts, critical alerts and ringtone). Now the hardware toggle switch is gone, I hope this comes soon.

Add me to the list as well. Sliders / indicators show volume to the lowest non-off setting but it will randomly go obnoxiously loud, it almost seems like it’s louder than typical max. Indicators / sliders still show low volume when it happens too. 15PM on 17.1b1 will test b2 tomorrow.
Edit: aaaand my alarm volume was off this morning despite not being off in settings, going off silently for an hour. As a test I hit snooze and the volume was normal.

I’m usually a lurker here but made an account just because this issue is so dang annoying. When I mess with the notification volume or restart my device, it’s normal for the first few sounds. Then it revert to being very loud again. The Lock Screen one specifically is very annoying. I’ve already turned of the sound for typing as I was going crazy.

So I called apple support. They let me try several different things that didn’t work because I refused to do a settings reset. In the end the settings reset actually fixed the issue.

Are you kidding me? Last two years I was dealing with same issue on my iPhone 13 mini. The difference was that volume was always on 0 instead of max but today I saw volume alert set on max. I am so pissed. It looks like the same issue same bug. What a joke.

I have this as well on 15 Pro, iOS 17.0.3. Notifications have been randomly extremely loud despite ringtone and alerts volume set to minimum above zero on the slider in settings.

Turning off Sound Recognition in Accessibility fixes it for me. Notifications and lock screen sound volumes work as expected with it off.

Turning on Sound Recognition causes buggy behaviour with volumes on my 15 Pro. Have been testing this with lock sound turned on, and turning on ringtone and alerts change with buttons. With volume on minimum, the lock screen sound is extremely loud. With volume on max, the lock screen sound is very quiet. Basically, the volume of notifications is inverted compared to the actual volume setting of the phone with Sound Recognition turned on.

I guess YMMV, seeing as a settings reset would presumably turn off sound recognition and others have tried that.

I didn’t even know about that setting! That’s totally useless for me and is just wasting battery and potentially causing other issues! So I turned it off too. Hopefully that fixes it! Thanks for the tip!

I will give this a shot. I was on vacation last week and had my notification volume to about 30 percent, but all my app notifications were blasting at full volume. I thought i was losing my mind. Glad to know I am not the only one with this issue.

Turned off Sound recognition and it seemed to fix it... after a reboot. So not sure if the reboot just fixed it. Either way thank you good citizen. This was driving me NUTS!

Someone in another thread said Apple support said to turn off bluetooth and reboot then you can turn bluetooth back on.
Weird fix but it worked for me.

Apple Support had me turn off bluetooth and reboot and then change other settings, none of which worked. Reading above I turned off the Sound Recognition and that has worked so far and now notification volumes are following the ring tone settings.
