Hey all—
I’m loving the new iPhone X (iOS 11.1), but I’ve got a peculiar notification problem that didn’t seem to happen on my 7. When I first wake the phone screen, I see all my recent notifications. Then, Face ID unlocks the phone and suddenly all my mail (and only mail) notifications disappear, and get moved down into the “Earlier Today” portion of the lock screen. It doesn’t matter if I received the email an hour earlier or 10 seconds ago, nor does it matter if I have viewed the email on another device. I’m finding it incredibly annoying, and it’s definitely not how this is supposed to be behaving. Anybody else having this problem? If so, any fix? I’ve tried resetting notifications, restarting the phone, etc. Thanks!

See if the following suggestion works for you:
I have experienced the same problem. I’ve found an imperfect fix. Go into settings -> notifications -> mail. Turn off the “show in history” slider for the affected mailbox. That eliminated the problem for me. Not sure if the fix has resulted in any unintended consequences.

So, this is a good explanation of what this feature does... and explains why now my Mail alerts hang around on the one screen after unlocking the phone, but then vanish forever if I don’t act on them straight away. I’m going to peg this as a bug.
I think you’re right

I’ve got no banners showing for mail alerts. Apparently only banner alerts can be on for them to work. They show up in history if they’re both on. Surely a bug

I had the same issue, and I found it was only emails from people I set as "VIP's". Once I removed them as VIP's the problem was solved. Personally, I would rather the email notifications stay on the screen then have them as a VIP. Hopefully this will be solved eventually, however I think this may solve your issue as it solved mine.

Made no difference to me. Tried removing the exchange account and recreating it but still not working. Very annoying!

I went around and around with notifications on the X and never really got it working the way it does my 7. It was a second-tier reason for returning the phone. (X: brilliant hardware, often frustrating UI/UX)

So, as an update, my notifications on the 7 are now broken as a result (apparently) of the 11.2.2 update. F*ck, this is annoying...

The funny thing is this happens to me and my wife’s devices. Mail and messages. We had this issue on the 7 plus. Upgraded to the X and the problems remains

This is without unlocking the device. Tap the screen or wake the device and the message just disappears. Happens a lot.

I have the same issue with my corporate Exchange account. Email on my lock screen from VIPs disappears from the lock screen as soon as Face ID recognizes me. Will file it as a bug with Apple’s bug tracker. Glad to know it’s not just my device.

Regards,

Josh

I’ve got a support call with a senior advisor tomorrow about this. Hopefully will find out something to help!

Just did a test with a known account that used to disappear. Looks like they’ve fixed it at last!
Finally!
Just about to install. It’s a smallish thing but it is pretty annoying

Wait..

So the notifications not showing when you unlock the phone isn’t fixed??

Who are you replying to?
Haha. I was just hastily posting that query.

I don’t think they have fixed my original issue, no banner alerts after unlocking.

The podcast app has had very dodgy notifications also, maybe it’s a broader iOS problem
