iPhone Notifications during disabled Apps

hi guys - seems, I‘m always writing when I‘m abroad. But there has been a function in my iPhone that bothers - or even annoyed - me a lot during my current trip through Australia or abroad in general.

If I disable mobile Data for specific apps (in this case for all apps) I still get notifications and red bubbles when going from Flight Mode into Online mode. This means I get a Twitter notification, even though I disabled it clearly in my settings.

Anyone got an idea or explanation for this?

As I recall notifications are mostly delivered via APNS which is essentially an Apple (system) service. You'd likely need to disable notifications themselves if you wanted to stop receiving those.

ADD: if concerned about data usage, as "C DM" said, need to disable the notifications at the app level, as the core notifications subsystem can handle up to 2k sized notifications, so, can add up quickly.
