Notifications on MBP

I've noticed, don't know when it started...(last few updates/ months?) that I sometimes get 'junk' Notifications on my 'pull down' menu (right side top of screen where you hit the date and Notifications etc. come from the right) which don't show up in my mail. They usually have the generic 'mail' icon as the standard notifications which do show up in my mail. Anyone else experiencing this and if so have an explanation or know how to stop? Thanks in advance for any input. 2017 MBP; OS 12.2.1
