Notifications While Streaming Music

I know this has been an ongoing question/debate on the best way to make this work, but can any iOS 11 Beta users shed some light on muting notifications while streaming music? Did Apple happen to address this and make it easier to accomplish?

It's quite annoying listening to the music volume fluctuate while streaming Amazon Music through Bluetooth in my SUV. I know I can use the mute switch, but I am hoping something may have changed in iOS 11.

Well considering it's deemed "the world's most advanced operating system" I would like to hope it could be advanced enough to sense music is playing (on the device itself) and automatically mute notifications. In my opinion this feature trumps new sets of emojis every year.

But what about people who would like to have notifications while playing music.

Isn't it the point of having sound/notifications on? Even though the music blast off my car's loudspeakers I can still hear the notifications.

The new Control Center could have an easy to use MUSIC MODE toggle. Turn it on and BAM! volume reducing and alert tones are gone. Turn it off and BAM! phone works as normal.

When driving anywhere and streaming Amazon Music and someone puts me into a group text, the music stays lowered pretty much the whole time. I never use the mute switch: 1 - it's a PITA to squeeze my gorilla sized fingers into the tiny little wee slot in the case and 2 - I don't need more steps in my daily routine.

If humans can put a machine on Mars, Apple techs can figure something out right???

Or you could use the new control center and tap the mute switch? Why do you want to make things more complicated? Some people like getting notifications. Some don’t. I usually like not being disturbed. So I hit mute. If I’m waiting for an important email/text/call, I don’t tap mute. The solution is already there and simple to use.

I didn't realize another simple toggle would complicate things and blow people's minds, apologizes.

Side note: some people like Almond Joys and some people don't… but the option is there.

Or just Do Not Disturb? You could turn that on with your watch if you have one.

You should not be paying attention to notifications whilst driving anyway. Use DND, DNDWD or mute the phone.

You literally just described the mute switch... While I understand your point for having another toggle, if the toggle seems to operate EXACTLY like another toggle, why not just use the other toggle?

I agree but consider an intelligent music DND mode. You can leave this permanently enabled and mute will only be effective when music is playing, otherwise it just respects the physical switch. It’s not a feature I’m dying to see but it’d be pretty neat. You could also add or include in that video DND, which hides notifications until you’re done watching as video- at which point it could notify you that you missed some motivations

Alright, you’ve now described something that isn’t EXACTLY like the mute switch, so I agree that could be a useful feature.

By adding a mode like I described above. The mute switch currently requires manual intervention each time for those that want it to be muted during music. An intelligent ‘mute when playing music’ mode could be enabled permanently for those who want it, and disabled permanently for those who don’t.

So... with toggles galore coming in iOS 11, force touch toggles nonetheless, why not have just. one. more. toggle? Would this be the end of the world? Side Note: this is a tough crowd, but I appreciate the few who are capable of thinking outside the box.

Being bothered by notifications SO MUCH, I manually disable all apps notification sounds but a few selected ones. Also I disable all banner notifications but a few.

This is a bit tricky at start but it will work well on the long run. Bad thing is you need NC more often.
