Novice trying to decide between these two SLR's -

I'll be using it for my work, taking photo's of products and parts, photo's for flyers, posters, print material, also for leisure nature shots.

Which seems like the better buy?

It doesn't matter. For product shots, good lighting and backgrounds make more of a difference than the delta between the two cameras. To get good lighting, depending on the sizes of the products you'll need more of a budget than for the camera and lens.

I'm no photo expert and only guessing at the type of stuff you'll be shooting but I'd say, scratch the T1i and go for the XSi - Buy a used body for $350-450, purchase a nice macro lens (if shooting small objects - i.e Tamron 17-55 f/2.8), a cheap-o flashbox or DIY, with some nice lighting..
