I just encountered a review of this sweet Razer Blade notebook, and while reading it, I wondered where this 35W Quad-Core CPU comes from. And surprise ... it's a yet unreleased Intel CPU!

The 2,2 GHz Intel Core i7-3632qm is the second 35W Quad-Core CPU released by Intel (after the 3612qm), and it's even more powerful. The guys at Notebookcheck even say it's the successor of the mentioned CPU. While not yet officially announced, it seems to share all specs except the slightly higher base clock speed with its predecessor.

I expect the high-end Mini to feature this CPU (or, for cost reasons, the 3612qm) together with something from the GeForce GT640M LE to the GT650M (probably the first one), which would make it to the powerhouse we are all waiting for.

Power- and size-wise, this is entirely possible and all it needs is Apple to put these components in an Ivy Bridge equipped Mini.

As for the date, I personally would think end of october would be a good date - not only to counter the Windows 8 release party at the 28th. What do you think?

(And nope, guessing never gets boring if you're waiting this hard ;) )

If Apple puts a quadcore Ivy Bridge with a discrete GPU in their Mini, I would upgrade in a heart beat. It would probably crush my Mac Pro....

In everything other than expandability - it WILL crush your mac pro. At some things, due to the new AES and quicksync instructions, it will be several orders of magnitute faster.

I am waiting to see what October 17th brings. As I want a Mac mini quad i7.
So, it's either the current server, or hopefully a new one with the above mentioned CPU.

I still say it will be next Spring for the Mac mini release. As much as I'd like it this month, I don't think it will happen.

I am looking forward the iPad Mini. :)

But it's certainly worth waiting 2 weeks for. It's not like the current ones will disappear. If there's no mention October 17th,then a used 2011 Mac Mini it is.

I agree 100%. I'm looking for a 2010 Mac mini Server right now, as it's a little cheaper and will last quite sometime for my intended purposes.

I will definitely save up for the Mac mini Server release next year though. :)

do you realize the cpu in a 2010 server is a c2d 2.66 and that the server in a 2011 is a quad core ivb. geekbench score is 4000 vs 9500. I would not want a server 2010 at 650 since the server 2011 can be had for 850 at apple refurb.

now if you want snow leopard server software as your osx I guess the 2010 is okay. I just find it hard to use the 2010 to save a few hundred dollars. So maybe running snow is important for your needs.

the speed jump from the 2010 server to the 2011 server is just about the biggest jump of any mac desktop that I know of for a one model upgrade.

Well, the Apple store is down right now.
Who knows. Maybe new updated hardware?

I do understand. I'm about to buy the wife a refurbed MBA 13" and I need a few externals for backups and misc things. So a new Mac mini Server is out of the question. Also, it's quite the over kill for what I need. This is a server that I'm going to use at the house.

I currently have ML/MLS running on my early '09 Mac mini. I want to get the '10 so I can install ML/MLS on it and then take Server off the '09 and set that up for my 5yo to use.

Now, if I needed it for a client or something really important, I'd get a new Server. So, I do understand that totally and appreciate it.

I would also like to see a faster processor in a Mac Mini...
I would also like to politely ask you not to name any posts in the Mac Mini forums starting with the words "Now it's here:..."
Nearly gave me a heart attack...:D;)

A quad core, and a discrete GPU? I would buy that the minute it goes on sale. That could do server stuff and games at the same time!

what is the difference having a server model and a standard model?

The servers have two HDD'S in them, a faster CPU and OSX server for the upgraded $$...

The 2011 server is a quadcore vs dualcore i7.
If you do media related stuff, as I do, then more cores is better vs a slightly higher CPU speed dual core.

The Mac mini needs a new cooling system and an external power supply. This solves a lot of the heat and noise problems.

knowing apple it will have a great processor and a medium to low end gpu. then they will castrate it and give it 256 mb of video ram, because its still the year 2005.

Well, they addressed this issue in all Macs but the Mini (not counting the MBA as it's clearly not a gaming machine right now). So I hope they'll give us the 1 GB, as NVidia doesn't even offer less VRAM in their mid-class chips.

And a small update: The iTunes 11 website no longer says "Coming late october". It now simply says "Coming in october", which could mean we get it together with our new Mini before (!) late october.
