they have GOT to release a 12 or 16 gig iPhone for 500 sometime in the next few months right? I mean, bitching aside, they know people will pay 600 for an 8 Gig, they will pay 500 for a 12Gig. They will release this in the next 6 months to a year for 500 bucks, bank on it! And they will probably call this "version 2" to get the people who "dont buy 1st gen stuff." Now that the new iPods are out, they have a pricing hole at 500 bucks, with the iphone price drop. I am not condoning it, I just think it's what they will do within the next year.

Actually what I think they'll do is continue to introduce "new" products with the highest price tags in the history of that product.

Then proceed to drop the prices 2 months later. This is so ridiculous it defys description. I bought mine on launch and even I'M pissed. I can't imagine those who bought one within the last few days.

I don't think that Apple will release a new iPhone with upgraded capacity that quickly, having only a 8GB iPhone at a reasonable price will attract more customers than a higher capacity iPhone, that said I'm sure they'll release something new within the next year that will have the OP's said capacity.

I suspect that the reason for the price drop is to increase sales that have started to stagnate for the iPhone (I don't believe Jobs until I see actual numbers), with this price drop I'm sure that many will purchase it. The price drop in the iPhone now makes it more reasonable and many many more people will purchase one or even switch contracts b/c the $200 savings is more than many early termination fees.

Sad but true, itsn't it?

The Touch will have 16GB. So it kind of goes without saying that there will be a 16GB Phone. Probably around the time that the Touch is released.

Calm down, dude. The price difference is only $200. That's like 2 days of work at most. If you can't make $200 in 2 days at work, then you probably shouldn't have bought an iPhone in the first place.

I'm not sure that justifies the price paid by early adopters. Some people make $100 a day, others make $1000 a day. This has nothing to do with the situation raised by the extreme price cut the iPhone saw today.

After reading the Anandtech article on the iPhone and not having 3g, the iPhone looks like that all the available space inside (circuit board, chips, etc) is taking up. I don't see where they can add 4 or 8 more GB's worth of memory chips on there, unless they rebuild the circuit board, or shrink some of the current hardware somehow....
