Do you guys think they'll be a lot more firmware hacks since we don't have to worry about updates.

I'm at least hoping someone will figure out a way to allow for AirPlay to work on it since it seems it won't be supported.

I don't think it's a given that the old AppleTV won't be getting any updates. They supposedly won't get updates to add the features of the new AppleTV, but they could easily still get updated. Apple is still selling the old AppleTV; it can't abandon it completely just yet.
