Now there are two identical machines knocking about apart from VRAM

early 2.0 ghz MBP with 256mb VRAM

and

later (slightly) 2.0 ghz MBP with 128mb VRAM

can we do some tests to find out if the extra VRAM does indeed make that much difference.

whos up for it? what kind of tests can we do. has anybody bought a BTO on the 2.0ghz with 128mb VRAM and added the 100gb HD just to make the test IDENTICAL!

im really interested :D

I second this...let's hear it people! :D Is there really a big difference? If there are no MBP owners out there willing to do it, let's try to find a few iMac 20" owners with the 128MB and 256MB vram options. The card is exactly the same (actually almost all the hardware is) so we can trust the results, either way.

Well I have a brand new (less then a week old) iMac 20" with 128MB VRAM and 1GB of RAM. What are you looking for?

Well, for my part I'd be interested in the difference in performance on games mainly. I don't use any of the pro-level software that might benefit from good video hardware, so someone else would have to advise you on that. But frame rates at different detail setting on World of Warcraft, Doom3, etc. would be great if you play any of those games. :) Anyone have anything else to add?

Honestly, my gut feeling is that 128 vs. 256 probably won't be a big difference, but I'm still more inclined to buy the 256 for my iMac just because it's only $68 more on my edu discount. :D I wish I could find a 256MB model in one of my local Apple stores, but they're all out right now. :(
