Now With the MacBook released I need advice.

For college im going to buy a macbook pro. But with the macbooks just released it would seem logical there will be an upgrade to the macbook pro in some way in the next couple of months. The macbooks are a grand cheaper then the pro's and offer almost everythign the same except illuminated keyboard, x1600 graphics, and a larger screen. So they will be upgrading the macbook pro's to the 64bit Merom Core soon wont they? My real question is, does anyone know/think there will be an upgrade to the pro's by august and i should hold off buying it till then?

In my opinion to get the best value out of a computer, purchase it when you really need it. No sooner and no later. Ignore the possibility of updates because they will happen regardless and they are unpredictable.

Of course, not all computer purchasers will have a time when they "really need it," in which case I think it's best to purchase immediately following an update. Either that, or purchase it and then stop looking at websites for the next 6 months so you don't know when the new ones are released.

While that's true and indeed what I tend to do, it's also true that for a lot of people it can be far more appropriate to buy older, tried and tested technology. I believe that, perhaps for the majority of normal users (not counting enthusiasts on MR), deliberately avoiding 'brand new' products probably makes sense.
