"Police Scanner is a handy application that allows you to listen to authority radios from around the world. No longer is there a need for bulky receivers or obvious speakers... all you need now is an iPhone or iPod touch, reception or WiFi"

I've been using that app and the emergency radio app for a few months now. Good apps. I like emergency radio app better though because it has the police 10 codes listed on the listening screen so you can see what they are talking about.

What is the emergency radio app called?

That sounds cool I'll have to check it out. I wonder if they have it where it can show your most local station.

Yeah a favorite feature would be cool, if it has one, I would be pretty tempted to buy it... they have a list of PD's that they carry on their website.

They both have a favorites listing. Police Scanner also goes right to the screen or PD that you were listening to when you last closed the app. They both have an in app volume control as well.

Ah well, cheers anyway. I'll have to find some other app to entertain me, god knows there's enough!

I have had this app for a long time

I have one called Police Scan and Emergency Radio both are pretty decent list of city's. Police Scan is better looking if that matters. if somebody wants I can look at both to see what is in your area there is also Scanner Radio I haven't bought that one yet maybe somebody else has. I love one to listen too Ham Radio so far nothing.

personally I think emergency radio has more locations but I think only us police scanner has

list Australia,Canada,Chili,Iriland,Norway,Sweaden & US

Why wouldn't it be legal to listen to police broadcasts? They're broadcast on public airwaves without encryption. You can listen to them with a $10 police scanner from Radio Shack.

Yes it's legal but some departments have gone to a digital system and that $10 police scanner won't pick those up. The digital scanner that we have from Radio Shack was $499.

But my point is that it's never been illegal to listen to police radios, so the title of this thread makes no sense.

good point

Also it's legal now because there is a App for that. they been selling Scanners and long as there have been police radio's. ;) the only issue would be using the Scanner to interfere with Police. Showing up at crime scene. but op listening is legal.

Are these any different than something like Radio, which also give you access to all the ScanAmerica stations?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

OP failed to mention that the app is $.99 today.

Are there any of these apps that include the UK?

No, because U.K. police frequencies, other than a couple of London Met traffic ones, are now secure from the public's ears (secure tetra). It used to be fun listening to their vhf and uhf frequencies but I can't blame them for using secure comms. Technically it was always illegal to listen to.

I think things are different in the U.S.

In the US, most states have laws about listening to police frequencies while mobile. Some of those are CA, FL, IN, KY, etc. There are exceptions to these rules though, such as amateur radio equipment.

That said, using amateur radio equipment to listen to police frequencies is illegal. We are allowed to have equipment capable of doing so, but are not exempted from actual listening.
