So I just installed iOS10, and when you put your finger on the home button, now you also have to press the home button to unlock it, so it is a 2 step process now?? How is that better?

Settings, General, Accessibility, Home Button, then turn rest finger to open on

No, you don't have to do that. It's an optional setting.
But you've got the process wrong, the placing of your finger on the home button is what unlocks it. Pressing the home button takes you to the Home Screen or your current app.
And how is it better? It lets you view your lock screen notifications, widgets, etc. It solves the "Touch ID is too fast" problem. What I'd like to know is how it's supposed to be worse? Before, you had to press the home button to get into the Home Screen or current app, exactly like now.
Thank you both!! I never saw a issue with the unlock being to fast lol, so I couldnt understand what the benefit of this was to add a extra step. I just turned it off, I really appreciate it!!
One last question, how do you do animated backgrounds on the texts? I saw when they previewed iOS10 that it had that but I do not see a option. I see how you can draw texts now but I saw where you can make the messages slam onto the screen,, and even have fire works, etc?

It was the first thing I did.You can turn that off, go to:
Settings, General, Accessibility, Home Button, then turn rest finger to open on
Type in your message then long press the up arrow on the right, then choose the effect, slide right to choose screen effects.
Must say i had the same thought, if I wanted to see the lock screen I just press the Home button using the side of my thumb or if it was lying flat any finger without a print loaded fro touchID.
The speed that the phone unlocked was great just resting the finger on Home.
I don't have that option on my iPad 4 and the new lock screen (double press home button to unlock) feels clunky. Is it only for devices with Touch ID?You can turn that off, go to:

If by springboard you mean unlock, then yes. It unlocks immediately. If you mean Home Screen, you swipe right to left. Left to right gets you the camera.

Works the same as it has for me in the past. I press the home button screen wakes up and unlocks. I don't have to press twice.
Looks like the accessibility option actually would make it easier than the past. If I can just rest my finger on the home button now instead of actually pressing it as I always have done.

This has to be the most misunderstood feature of iPhones. It was ALWAYS a two-step process:
- Tell the phone you want to do something
- Unlock the phone so it can do it
Now, just the act of picking up your phone wakes it. At this point, you can press the home button which will do exactly what it did before (read your fingerprint, unlock and go to home screen). OR you can just REST (not press) your finger on the home button which will *unlock* your phone but keep it on the widgets/lock screen so you can interact with the widgets.
It's only for iPhone 6s line of phones and above (including SE and 7).
