I'm just about finished with my "converson" from a Windows box to the mini and everything is going very well. I do have a couple of questions about how the mini integrates with external drives. I have an NTFS formatted drive that held a large number of music and video files. I added these to my iTunes library but I'm not sure if they were moved to the internal drive on the mini. (I also used htis drive to store all my digital photos and these seemed to have been copied to the mini's drive when I imported them using iPhoto.)

So are these files now on the mini? Or is it just pulling them from the NTFS drive when I open one with iTunes?

If they are not on the mini, can I copy them over and where should I put them?

This is important as I plan on reformating this drive and using it for Time Machine. Actually, when I first plugged in the drive the mini asked me if I wanted to use it for Time Machine. That would require reformatting hte drive, right?

TIA

Go to iTunes preferences (command-comma) and make sure you have this box CHECKED. That way when you drag and drop music into iTunes it will copy to the local drive where your iTunes library is stored. If you do not have this box checked the actual music files will stay on the external drive in your case. iPhoto has a setting for this also.

In iPhoto and iTunes both, do not mess with the files in the library (in Finder) directly. You want to add and remove things in the app itself.

Thanks. So if the box is not checked and I check it, will it move all the files that are not in the library over? Or will I have to drag and drop them again?

You will need to do it again after you check the box.
