iPod Number Next to the App?

OK, this might seems like a stupid question, but what is the the number next to the Applications icon in iTunes. Right now I have an 11 next to it. But yesterday it said 7.

Also, is there any way to get up an update on app directly through iTunes on my laptop? I know you can do this when you connect to the Apps store directly from my Touch (or iPhone).

That number is the number of applications that have updates available. I'm also pretty sure you can update on you iPod Touch/iPhone with iTunes...though i'm not sure cause i don't have one yet. I'm waiting till tomorrows iPod update!
