how many tracks of recorded audio have people been able to use at once in GarageBand?

has anybody reached 64 audio tracks? anybody come across a limit for audio tracks that is LESS than 64? if so, is it a RAM limitation or one inherent in the program?

i hate to sound impatient but....

SERIOUSLY? am i the only one interested in using GarageBand for multi-track audio? Has nobody recorded more than a couple of audio tracks in GarageBand?

Any input on this would be helpful.

thanks

I'd love to know how many audio tracks can be used as well. I have a Powerbook G4 800, which I hope will be sufficient to have multiple tracks (ie: 10-12, maybe more) per song.

I just purchased the MobilePre and a few microphones, and I hope I didn't waste my money!

Regards,
Peter

# of audio tracks

On my 867 G4 w/ 1G of RAM, I was able to get about 8 tracks with effects while maxing out my processor. I tried all the things suggested (no file vault, quit all applications, etc.), but that was the best I seemed to get. Other people seem to be a bit more successful. I have been able to run the demos, but again, the processor is peaking. Hope that helps.

I can only record one track at a time. This means that I can only monitor one track at a time. I have the 49e MIDI going in and a US-122 for my guitar, but I can only monitor one input at a time. !!! This is a pain. Not that I play the guitar and the keyboard at the same time, but that means that friends and family can't play along. Steve should have told us this!! He said that families would have a good time playing together. This really stinks. Even karioke machines have two audio inputs.

I've yet to test the limit, but my current project has 12 tracks now, only ever 9 playing a time, all with effect and about half and half between midi and real audio, no problems yet.

this is on an iMac 1Ghz with 512MB O' RAM.

Are you getting the red play head in the time line across the top with that setup? If not, I'm jealous. ;)
