I currently have a family plan with verizon and im switching to at&t for the iphone, but im not going to cancel my verizon contract because its only $10 a month and it ends in october. If i do this will i be able to get back my number once my verizon contract is up?

No. you'll have to wait until then to port the number.

i know i cant get that number now, but once my verizon contract ends the question is... can i now get that number in place of my new at&t number that i will be using until october.

Yes, you can port your number over at a later time. When your verizon contract is up, call up AT&T, and tell them you want to port your old verizon number over to your new phone. They will handle porting it, as well as canceling your old account with Verizon.

Numbers tend to be linked to accounts so you may have to add a new line to your account to port the number.

If you need to port the number I would either break the contract now, or wait to get one in october when your contract is up.

that would suck:mad: but keeping my number is not worth paying verizon $175 fee rather then eating the contract and paying $30 over three months.

You should be able to port your number later. When I got my new vzw phone, I tried it for a month before porting my old number over to it (from tmobile). I see no reason why AT&T can't do the same. The "number" associated with my account changed, but I don't have 2 numbers.

Once your contract ends, you can switch to another carrier and take your number. But, if you get your iphone now and keep your verizon too, you can't keep your verizon number if you close your acct, unless you switch to another carrier or continue on it.
