numbers and pages not opening files 9.7" Pro

My fiancee has a 9.7 pro and created some files using numbers and pages apps.

numbers she used to keep track of her dads tablets and appointments etc as he has a lot!

also pages she has written a few letters.

Now for last few days she has tried to open existing files on the tablet.
if open pages or numbers the files are seen but greyed out and any number of tapping will not open them!

well finally this morning pages decided to let her open the files and all are clear and not greyed out.
but numbers still not working.

all apps up to date and all updates applied to IOS (although this might be one reason it not working?)

So she created a new numbers file this morning with the tablet list.
She saved it and shut off the iPad and on turning it on the new file is also greyed out.

I suggest she download WPS office and try that.

Any ideas why the files can be seen but greyed out?

Is she in WiFi (or cell) range when she’s trying to open them? It almost sounds like they have been uploaded to iCloud and then changed on another machine and need to de downloaded again. If she’s not in range, they might not open.

yes she on wifi all the time.

no other device has edited the file.

she is 6ft from the router
