What about integrating that with the desktop versions? I don't see anyway of creating iCloud versions on my numbers & pages app on my computer? Can't they all just get along?

This was a curious move on Apple's part. To get the desktop versions of your files into iCloud, you have to drag and drop the files into the iWork section of iCloud.com. You can also download them from there to your desktop machine. You would think that they'd make it work without any user intervention.

Yeah i was expecting that a tab of some sort would appear in Pages, sorta of like photo stream in iPhoto, with all the iCloud documents.

It's not that simple, the iWork programs on iOS are not fully featured. That is important because a bunch of things are stripped away when the file is uploaded to the iOS device (like comments in Pages files for example). If Apple enabled auto-sync with the desktop version of iWork, then all those added features would get erased from your desktop copy of the file.

So Apple needs to do two things, add all features of iWork (desktop) to iWorks (iOS), and second add iCloud compatibility into iWorks (desktop). Until then we are out of luck and need to manually upload our files, stripping some content from the file while doing so.

At least that is my best guess.

so I move a bunch of keynote, pages and numbers docs to the cloud from my iphone and ipad and all is well.

Then the next morning they are wiped from everywhere.

I turn off wifi syncing and backup to cloud, changing it back to regular syncing via cable and backup to computer...

then all works well...

what is happening here?

Yeah all of my documents are wiped every time I restart Pages. This is unacceptable, especially since I use my iPad for all note taking in college.
