I noticed that some columns in Numbers won't sum or average. Sometimes they start with a 0 and sometimes there is text in an adjacent field up or down, or some of the numbers are kind of greyed out...then there is no average...there might be a count of the boxes...
I need to know how to get an average on a column no matter what is in it..... any info on this??? or do I have to get a different tool/app
for that....?

To do any math calculations in a column, you have to make sure the whole column or cell range is in a numbers format appropriate to the type of calculation or formula. In other words, if a cell is formatted to Text and has a number in it, a calculation won't work because the format needs to be a number. Sometimes what might look like a number isn't.

look at these 2 examples, screenshots.......
they won't add and average..... they are columns in a multi column spreadsheet...
I looked at the Format button and didn't see what to do...
what should I do exactly to make these columns add and average...??

It would help to see a screenshot of your formulas to troubleshoot. Here's three screenshots of how to use the format option to ensure they're all in number format, and the SUM and AVERAGE formulas for a column. Take the same screenshots of your spreadsheet.
