There is some very interesting thing "hidden" in the 0.4.6 changelog: "Add Nvidia Web Driver support for Maxwell and Pascal"

Did anybody get this to work? I tried with a GTX 1070, but with no success so far. No picture at all wit 12.4.

What i did: Build and install OCLP 0.4.6 of course. SIP options set as described here. Also added the boot-args as described. Checked if Whatevergreen is loaded. But - as mentioned above - no picture from the 1070.

What i do not really understand: Are these patched WebDrivers "integrated" with OCLP or does the WebDriver-package have to be installed too (with all the known recent "signing"-problems)?

It's experimental hack and METAL is not supported, so the whole UI works via OpenGL fail-safe and have the exact same problems you have when you run anything newer than HighSierra with a non-METAL GPU like HD 5770.

I've tested with a GTX 970 and lost interest fast after having all the UI blur issues and lot's of things not working correctly or not working at all. I've tested back with the nightlies and before the whole NVIDIA certificates debacle.

Thanks for your assessment, tsialex!

Id like to play around with it a bit anyway. So are there any additional installs to make, or should it work with the settings, SIP options and boot-args given? I am a bit irritated by getting no picture at all from the GTX. And the machine does not even boot with the card installed. Card is working fine with High Sierra.

Do you think this function/patch is affected by the certificate revocation as well?
Sure, if you read the commits on Github the developers already tried several workarounds, like whitelisting NVIDIA, and didn't worked.

Being brutally honest here, it's a very ugly hack to make a driver made for HighSierra to run with BigSur/Monterey and the end result is that you don't even have METAL support.

Also being blunt, Big Sur runs wonderfully with a fully upgraded Mac Pro (144.0.0.0.0, Westmere Xeon, BCM94360 AirPort, Polaris and newer AMD GPU), but it's a dog the moment that you need to start hacking it/root patching to provide kext support for deprecated hardware.

I have zero ambitions (or illusions) to use this as an everyday solution for productive work. For that i am happily using some other 5,1 still running HS and not missing anything. Only would have been nice just to see Monterey on a card which could not even run Mojave. But seems not to be as easy as it looked like. Above all with the certificate mess.

NVIDIA already sent the re-signed driver via email to anyone that opened a support ticket, multiple people confirmed it, so at least this issue will be solved in the near future.

Yes! I have seen in the thread for this topic. But didn't people already report various problems with this particular driver...

...which i would find very strange as the driver worked perfect before with only the certificate beeing revoked.

AFAIK, it's exactly the same driver, just re-signed.

After all the things people did in the last two weeks, a clean install of High Sierra 17G66 + Security Updates 2020-005 and 2020-006, or at least to restore a working clone from before the revocation, should be done.

For this i have - with some of the fixes - my setup with the older 387.10.10.15.15.108 package running like before and would prefer not to touch it as long as it has no further issues. There would be a lot to configure/setup again if i started from scratch.

For the NV/Monterey part: i'm afraid i still don't really get it. Does the webdriver-package have to be installed in addition to rebuilding OC to 0.4.6? And if, how did you get this done. With the lately published resigned package i (obviously) get an "not compatible with OS-version"-error, trying to install and that’s it.

OCLP post-patch will install it, but OCLP was not updated with the driver that is being sent by NVIDIA by email.

Btw, OCLP devs are completely focused with Ventura, I doubt that anyone will have any time to look at this while lot's of people are pressuring for Ventura ETA.

So it should work with the fixes. ...but seems to be a dead end for me anyway. With the AMD GPU installed i get a "no patches needed for system". And with the 1070 installed i dont get a picture or even the machine booted to access it via screen sharing.

Sure.

It finally worked!

about.png

Had to stick the 1070 and one of the stock 5770s together to get the root patch applied,...as i got no image from the 1070 without the patch and could not patch without nvidia hardware onboard. So no space left for my Monterey NVMe. I had to use some SATA SSD wit Big Sur on it instead.

Also had to run the script from the certificate revocation thread with the the OS-version-checking-part deleted.

But now everything works as expected. Sure, no Metal. But OpenGL seems just like with High Sierra. At least Benchmarks like Valley offer equal scores:
