Hi, so I just tried to install a 4000 in replacement of a gtx285 and having a really weird startup issue. It won't start. It just chimes once a second until I shut it down. I have installed countless cards so I don't think I have made an error there and the green light is on 6 pin in and fan is spinning fine. Tried slots 1 and 2. I also installed all drivers etc prior to installation. If I put 285 or other card tried 120 and 8800gt it boots fine. Is the card a lemon or is there something I am missing.

2008 quadcore 2.8, 10.7.6, SSD boot, 12tb internal raid etc

Thanks for the reply, yes it is a mac card- says so on the side and has one displayport and one dvid. Should note that can't even boot with another card installed! Can only boot when it is removed. Fans on, green lights on, but nobody home...

If you know someone with an MP try it there.

Nvidia's site mentions drivers for 10.7.5 but you would think 10.7.6 is covered

A long shot but if any of your 4 internal bays are empty and you have an extra HD, plug it in and install 10.6 or 10.8
The only problem with that is Apple not having their OS's on disks like in the past.

Is this card brand new, or was it swapped from another workstation? Was this card working under 10.7.5 (or another version), or is it a new problem with 10.7.6?

Have you tried reseating it? Basically reinstall the hardware and make sure the card is fully seated when doing so.

Are there other PCIe cards in use? Have you tried removing all of them and then installing/booting? Would eliminate a slew of potential conflicts that could pop up, but no guarantees that would fix your issue.

Before trying to RMA, best to see if you could try in another machine.

thanks to everyone for there replies, have now returned the card and should recieve a replacement tomorrow so we'll see what happens. FYI I tried everything to get this working different slots, with or without other cards. I will be using this as my main GUI card replacing an 8800GT which is connected via molex to the dvd drive power (who uses dvds anymore), I am also replacing my GTX285 soon- I assume that as my 4000 is my boot card I can use any 5/6 series PC card in its place? As I use this for Avid, Davinci, AE and occasionally smoke I was going to get a GTX680 are there any brands versions to go for. Or would all you helpful chaps have a better suggestion?

Since NVIDIA has made flashing a 680 so easy that a child could do it, you might want to stick with a reference 2gb 680 that will turn into perfect Mac card.

There is no OS 10.7.6. Presumably the OP meant 10.7.5.
