Hello, i need some help with Mac Pro (mid2010) (quad core Nehalem) with Lion 10.7.5. I bought an MSI 570 Twin Frozer III Power Edition card (PC) and put it in the second x16 pcie slot (in slot 1 there is an Ati 5770) . But in the System report says that the Pcie lane width is only 1x and the performance is slow. If i put it in the first slot its 16x (unfortunatly half the bandwith 2.5G) I`ve checked the second slot with ati 5770 and its working at 16x. So i guess the problem is not in the mainboard. Unfortunatly if i put the ati card in the second slot i cannot put the nvidia in the first because its too big. So the main issue here is why i get only 1x from the second slot with nvidia 570. I would realy appreciate your help.

look at the resistors that are in a line above the slot on backside

very often one or more gets knocked off during install, that will cause similar issue to yours

thanks for the reply, but I've checked the card in the PC and its working fine at 16x (2.0), also in the first slot on the mac its working at 16x (1.1)

Hello,
So i have checked the resistors as you sugested, but they look fine.

I also have a Windows7 installed on that mac and GPU-Z also claims that the card is working at PCI-e 1x (1.1) in slot 2. (in slot 1 - 16x (1.1))

In Lion i`m using the drivers 295.00.05f03 from the (Frequently Asked Questions About NVIDIA PC (non-EFI) Graphics Cards ).

I have tried today a different card (560ti) and it works how it should (16x) in slot 2, its a mystery to me why 570 is working only at 1x at slot 2 ( in pc 16x-2.0, in mac slot 1 - 16x -1.1) so for now the only workaround that i have is to put the ati card in slot 3 (which is only 4x) but thats how i can keep both cards (570 -slot1). I`m trying to make this mac capable for Resolve (5770-gui, 570 cuda). I prefer to do things right and put 570 in slot 2 so if anyone has an idea of whats wrong please share it :) and btw which drivers should i use to enable pci e 2.0 ?
