I know that this is a dumb question, but...

Is there more to performance gains in GPUs than numbers would indicate. Every spec that I've seen seems to indicate that the 6600LE is about 2 times as fast as the geforce 2mx (just comparing numbers: 6600LE 6.4GB/sec & 1.2 billion for Fill vs. 2MX 2.7 GB/sec & 700 million for Fill)

Can someone enlighten me as to how much performance gain I'll see between these two cards? Thanks

Depends if your using windows or OS X, or if your asking if you'll see performance gains in just moving around windows (relies on graphics card) or playing 3d intensive games. If your refering to programs that rely on graphics cards to process video or something similiar to this, of if your a heavy gamer, the difference will be night and day between these two cards. That geforce 2mx is very outdated, and you should see a huge difference with a geforce6600...graphics memory is far better, and just the general architecture is vastly superior the the geforce2mx. Hope this helps.

I saw quite a difference moving from the GeForce 2MX to the GeForce 4MX. I think that you'll be blown away by what the 6600 can do.

Thanks... I'm upgrading from a G4 667 to the new dual-core 2 and it comes standard with the 6600LE, I decided to pay the extra for the 6600. I figure the extra vram, memory bandwidth, and fill rate were worth the minimal price difference. I do some 3d work that uses open gl for the modelling environment, so that should help.
