I have a Mac Pro (2009) with EVGA NVIDIA GTX 570 (dual-DVI). Works flawlessly in 10.8, using built-in drivers or NVIDA web drivers. For its day, this card was the best you could get, and was a major upgrade from my NVIDIA GTX 285 Mac Edition.

Anybody know if the 570 would support Metal on El Capitan? I would imagine that, since it's a Fermi card and has pretty beefy specs, it *should* ... but I don't want to assume anything since it's not a card Apple ever included official support for.

Let me know if anyone has tried it. I'd like to upgrade that machine to Cap because I use Notes syncing a lot and I would like to have it across all my machines. Other than that one reason, I have no other reason to upgrade. I don't understand why they can't just release the new version of notes for 10.8 users... I'd rather not break half my third party software each year just so I can keep up with Apple's ever-changing iCloud crap...

I tested a GTX470 in El Cap today, it ran fine in my limited test. The 570s I have are EFI versions so that makes them a little different, but a 570 was an improved 470 so likely it will work.

You can try MetaIinfo from Netkas: http://netkas.org/?p=1405

Just start the Unix Executable, the MetalTest.app doesn't work with final El Capitan 10.11.
