They gave us fermi (GF-100), their barely stronger than a HD 5870 GPU offering. Not only do they price it at MSRP $499 (higher in real life), but they have a high PSU requirement (42 A on the 12 V rail) and needs an 8-pin (150 W) and 6-pin (75W) connectors to stay powered....

Holy cow. nVidia, you seriously need to rethink your GPU plans. These GPUs are getting way too hot for their own good. The stats posted earlier bear this out all too well.

GPUs have had these sort of stickers for a while now. Generally the limit for heat on the core is 130 C - we have a while to go yet.

Show me a GPU from ATI that carries this type of sticker. You can't show one. Also, 130*C is not the bottom line, it's 105*C. nVidia's Fermi GPU doesn't have much chance if it idles at 90*C and at 100*C it will start throttling itself to prevent meltdown.

I think I remember my friend x850xt having a sticker on that when he got it. If it is not some warning sticker I have read it in more than one manual on graphic cards over the years. It is a pretty known fact years now that graphic cards get hot and need to cool have the system is turn off before removing them.

Now the amount of heat put off by a graphic card is nothing compared to the heat put off by a CPU. A CPU in a modern computer puts off more heat per sq inch than the surface of the sun.

As for heat as long as they safe as long as they stay below 150C. At 150C they start melting so running at 130C is pretty safe.

130*C?! I never knew GPUs were supposed to be a replacement for toasters, grills and sautee pans.

At least ATI does a very good job of keeping temperatures down.
