GPU (Mac Edition) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680

I updated my 5,1 Mac Pro to 10.13.3 and now the mac freezes on start up. The screen goes from the grey to progress bar to half grey and jumbled mess. The machine then the progress bar freezes but the mouse works. I updated the NVIDIA Web drivers to 387.10.10.10.25.156 through the NVIDIA web driver manager preferences after updating to 10.13.3. Now I can only run with Mac OS built in drivers. Mac was perfect before this.

HELP and suggestions.
Regards, Bob

I see that MacVidCards has a newer driver on their web page.

Just tried .157 and "Mac OS X version is not compatible" - Mac OS X version 10.13.3 (17D2047) is required for this update. Please update your OS version and try again.

Thank You, but I have macOS 10.13.3 (17D47)

Just wonder if your SIP is enabled or disable?
Where is SIP and how do you see in status?

Sorry SIP is enabled in
System Software Overview:

OK ... your post prompted me to quit waiting and update mine to see what happens. I had been waiting for new web drivers, so I just now did the update.

Machine 2012-5,1-3.33 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon
GPU (MVC Edition) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB

The OS X 10.13.3 updated normally and the NVIDIA Driver Manager indicated a new driver was available and I downloaded it. It is the same macOS 10.13.3 (17D47) and the driver is 387.10.10.10.25.156 as yours. It appears to be running fine here.

SIP is enabled.

You might try reloading the driver again to see if it fixes your problem.

Good luck and let us know how it goes ...

It’s Not working! I turned off SIP. Uninstalled the NVIDIA web driver and reinstalled as suggested. The MP almost reboots but stops the start-up at the very end.

^^^^That point is approximately where the EFI is switching to the Graphics Driver. On my 5,1 cMP with an MVC flashed GTX 1080, my screen goes black for about 3 seconds at that point and after the switch comes back again.

I'm assuming your GTX680 is a Mac Edition, or has it been flashed?

You need to have SIP ENABLED. You can uninstall the driver from the Nvidia Driver Manager (Lower Right Corner). Then enable SIP and re-install. During the install you should get a message about going to Security & Privacy and allowing the extension to be loaded. Allow the extension and the install will then continue. Reboot and all should be good.

My cMP is up and running NVIDIA Web Driver on 10.13.3. I Followed your instructions but also changed system preference/displays/ Resolution: selected (default for display). Since I normally set the resolution larger so I can see the menus in my CAD software. Thank You all for your help and suggestions. In any case, after countless restarts I was almost ready to go to the apple store and spring for a new Mac anything. Geek bench CUDA SCORE is 76257
Thanks and good night.

I believe you only get the pop-ups (there are actually two) on the first install of the Nvidia web drivers. Once you Allow the gatekeeper exception you won't get the pop ups on subsequent Nvidia web driver installs. Just like when you install a new App and start it. It asks if you want to allow the app to continue. But on subsequent starts it doesn't ask, only the first time. That's Gatekeeper.

What I really find kind of humorous is that Apple hasn't identified NVIDIA CORPORATION as an "Identified Developer" in macOS 10.13.3. It's not like NVIDIA is some puny off-the-wall company.....

This is exactly what happens on a fresh clean install of HS 10.13.3 when installing the Nvidia web driver if Gatekeeper and SIP are enabled as they are by default.
