nVidia web drivers for 5,1 (GTX series). How is it?

I did a search and didn't find the goods.

I've been reading that people don't really fancy the web drivers. Can I get a little bit more insight? Do they suck? Are they glitchy? Low performance? Incompatibility?

Yes, I'm aware of the need to hold off on MacOS updates with them. Does nVidia even stay on top of them, or have they been ignored?

I was hoping that they would be pretty decent. I game 50% in MacOS and 50% in Windows.

Depending on how you guys feel about the quality of them, I may just have to bet on getting an AMD card. Before, I was keeping the GTX 1070/1080 option open...

Not sure about gaming, but in general use scenarios, it performs well. I have a 960. I haven’t heard too much on the 1070/1080, as pascal on MacOS is still developing.

Sierra, Nvidia web driver and EVGA GTX 750 ti are smooth as silk for me. I don't miss the boot screen. I keep a GT 120 installed for when I need it.

No problems here. Nvidia usually releases a new driver the day after an OS update.

Don't know where you got your negative information from, but Nvidia stays of top on the latest Mac OS releases and has been stated releases a driver update and CUDA update within 24 hrs of OS release. I'm running a MVC flashed Gigabyte GTX 1080. The only downside is that I no longer can install beta OS software.

My experience differs. I've had my Mac Pro with the same specs for a long time and it has been flawless in use for me.
I then upgraded from a GTX 680 (flashed to ME) using native macOS drivers to a GTX 1070FE using the NVIDIA web driver.

Since doing so I've experienced a lot of lag when coming back to the machine after not using it for a bit. I thought it might be related to sleeping so I disabled sleep and the issue persists.
I can't say 100% that it is the web driver but my hunch is that it is.
This is why I'm returning the card and moving to an RX 580 with native macOS drivers.

The OS X Pascal drivers aren't as mature as the Maxwell drivers, so the theoretical performance jump of the hardware is not realized in practice. I used to run a 980 Ti in a cMP before switching to a 1080 driven Hackintosh, and the older computer seemed to have a smoother UI. I can't say for certain that was a driver issue given the many, many other differences, but it is a likely candidate. If you can find a used 900-series card for a decent price, that might also be a good option.

I've also never gotten the web drivers to play well with my receiver over HDMI. They really don't like turning the receiver on or off while the computer is awake. Occasionally a total UI freeze, but mostly a bunch of blinking while resolutions change.

Other than that, I've been happy with Nvidia. They've been very prompt and consistent with their driver updates.
