Hi all.
I recently bought an ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro M.2 NVMe SSD 512GB for my MacBook Pro 12,1 (early 2015, i5). I'd recently bought with it a Sintech adapter to fit with it, the same one in this eBay listing. It worked for a while, but as I noticed it became a bit funny. More recent problems, it would freeze up and give me a kernel panic, as well as a panic when I put the laptop to sleep.
This is what the error is:

Can someone help me out? Have I done something wrong? (other than install a non-Apple hard drive, that is) Mind you, I've primarily used Windows PCs so I don't know the technical stuff. I already reset the SMC.

Is your adapter a new revision? The early version of the green adapter needs to have kapton tape applied to prevent the adapter pins from contacting the metal shield over the SSD port.

The early revisions of the short black adapter had an issue with the wiring of the pins.

I have a newer one. Maybe it's the same with this one too?
You mean electrical tape or something?

I think it's most likely hardware related, but you also have a kernel extension for FUSE for macOS. If your problems coincided with a macOS update or a FUSE install/update, you might want to check that out.

Kapton tape is plastic tape that is used for high temperature environments.

If possible, perform another fresh install of the os and install a minimal number of programs.

I'm fairly sure there's no problems with FUSE as it worked fine even on my APPLE SSD.

I've already tried that. I get the same errors. Should I try a different adapter or something?

Do you get errors if you only install 10.14.5 without fuse?

The drive and adapter and know to work well with the 2015 MacBook.

Is 184.0.0.0 the latest bootrom for your MacBook?

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the drive and adapter?

Yes. I once accidentally left setup running and it went to sleep, and it gave me the same kernel panic.

I don't know how to check that or update that. I've primarily used Windows PCs.

I can try that, but I'm sceptical it'll work.

Installing the latest os will automatically update the bootrom.

Were you installing from a USB key or using internet recovery?

Should I try a different adapter, like the longer one on the Sintech website?
Electrically, there is no difference between the long and short adapter. Some people with a long adapter encountered an issue so they cut down the adapter so it was not so long in order to install the retention screw so neither the drive or adapter were bent after tightening.

Ah okay.
That is weird. Is there something I could change in macOS that could prevent this?
I've already tried a couple of commands in Terminal but seems like it hasn't really changed much.

Didn't do this with the original SSD. I don't know how to download High Sierra.
You would need to search for a place where you can download the High Sierra ISO or DMG file. To create a USB installer, you would need access to another Mac or install your old drive to create a High Sierra installer.

When do the panics occur?
