In London, it went down suddenly for almost 2 hours. This is not a rare occurance. When it comes to upgrading, I'm getting my phone on Vodafone.

I'm applying for an O2 unlock and going with vodafone. According to their forum, all data plans include tethering. :)

Yes, this is another reason why the iPhone sucks. Stuck with it on contract with O2 for another 19 months. :(

The iPhone has been a throughly mediocre experience for me. Wish I'd stuck with my Nokia on Orange and just got an iPod Touch...

The good side, though, is that the iPhone will soon be on Vodafone and Orange!

Good luck with that. I asked recently just in case they had changed their stance, but got a big fat NO.

Anybody succeeded with O2 unlatching their phone ?

ps

I noticed the downtime today too.

It all depends on who you talk to within O2. In most cases you get to talk to the monkey not the organ grinder.

Remember their exclusivity ends on the 10th, so that is the time they will be unlocking iphones, if you are out of contract that is.

omg 2 Hours Downtime.

It was done on purpose as well I'm sure.

I bet it was done at such an "inconvient time" like 12:30 at night where all you data hungry mongols were munching away bandwidth :/. Networks have ti be worked on you know and God for bid you don't have service for 2 hours just sck it up.

I wouldn't mind if it was just a case where it needed to be worked on and that's it, but as I said in the first post, it's not a rare occurrence, it happens far too often, and it's been getting worse in recent months.

I'm on Pay-and-Go, had it 6 months, but even if they levy a reasonable charge I will have it. I don't want to keep having to leave my iPhone at home when I'm travelling. I like it and want to use it everywhere, but sky high roaming charges prohibit that.

I have no 'contacts' with O2 and just used their 'Contact Us' service on their website, so I wasn't expecting anything other than a stock reply, but I gave it a go. Will try again as I mentioned when things look like they are changing.
It's not that I have a problem with 02's service, I would happily still use them when in the UK (about 90% of the time), but I would like to have just the one phone and not a standby for travelling.

I think the rational response would be to think they are going to fix it. The alternative is to not fix it and make the problem worse for themselves. I think their self interest in getting the network back up will serve your needs as well.

What else can they do?

I know what you can do and I know this is going to be a ball ache but you can either wait to be repaired or if you need a data connection desperately then find a wifi spot/internet cafe. There is more than one way to tap the internet.
