<rant> I got in line early yesterday, then waited three hours because o2's system for activation went down. They let us get the iPhone and sign the contract and walk out to activate the phone at home, promising a phone call later on to let us know our sims had been connected to the network once they proccesed it through the system. A day and a half later and my phone still has no service, so i thought id phone them up...now they are saying that it wont be connected to today, probably not tomorrow, but hopefully it will be activated by monday or tuesday at worst. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE JOKE! </rant>

I walked out of the o2 shop at 10am yesterday morning, and was told it could take up to 3 days. I was also porting my number across from a payg sim.

However, not 5 minutes ago the port has completed and service is fully operational :)

So, it could happen anytime - just remember to reboot the phone every few hours, as it seems to need that for it to realise it.

I spoke to an 02 person in the apple store today and they said that it should be done by tonight or tomorrow. But yes a joke and the only ones ho are laughing are 02 at us for paying our money and not getting the service.

Indeed, keep rebooting every now again!

O2 rang me and said I had been activated and what my new number was. They then said, it could take a while still before I connected to the network.

Anyway, long story short, I rebooted, and after a few seconds, what came up... O2-UK :D.

Shame there is no 3G in this area, but then I'm only here for a month from Uni... I'll have plenty of 3G goodness up there :D
