Hey folks, I don't know what it's worth, but I just spoke to a O2 Germany representative and he assured me, that o2 Germany will be the exclusive carrier of the iPhone in Germany. He said that it is expected before christmas (ok we already knew this) and that he didn't have any more details at the moment besides the fact that it WILL be offered with a 2-year contract just like in the us.

Just for those curious to why I called them, I was going to quit my contract with them because I assumed T-Mobile would be the carrier for the iPhone, but apparently I was wrong.

Besides, I don't think that they would assure you such a thing if it wasn't already in dry cloth.

I sure hope he's telling the truth, but he didn't have a reason to lie to me, because he put my contract on hold until the iphone comes out, which would be pointless....

just my 2 cents.

Do O2 have EDGE in Germany?

If they go with one network in Germany then I suepct they'll do the same all over Europe.

AFAIK Orange are the only people to have a sginificant EDGE rollout in the UK.

Edge O2? last I heard they had Edge roll out years ago, they are at 3G now and I think improving it to support the newer UMTS.

I wonder if Apple will release an EDGE based phone in Europe?

no they don't have edge, the only carrier who has edge in germany is t-mobile, but who needs edge in europe when we have umts? right, no one ;)
my bet is, the european iphone will have 3g (let's hope it does because it offers far less dropped calls than gsm
