My O2 iPhone £35 contract is up for renewal in January 2010.

I was wondering if anybody here could shed some light on the following questions;

1. Will O2 automatically assume I am starting a new contract, or will they contact me in the next couple of months

2. Will I be eligible for an upgrade to 3GS and it what cost (if any <- I can dream).

I'd be grateful for any input. Thanks.

Good Question,

Im in the exact same situation with my current contract ;)

I would welcome a free upgrade although i think its unlikely unless i go on a high tariff or longer contract, im thinking simplicity sim and wait for the summer to arrive to wait up my options then and maybe go to orange or vodafone, give someone else a crack.

Cant hurt :)

thers no way in the world i would lock myself to o2 for the moment....

they will not assume anything, and may contact you to offer you new business before the other networks get on board, otherwise unless you tell them your contract will just keep going...with no changes.

my strong advice is to get a simplicity sim, until the networks have all announced the deals as a price war is going to be brutal, especially here in the uk

i dont think o2 will go down without a fight and will have some new offers to attract current customers....orange and vodafone will have to have some excetional offers to get a lot of business...otherwise most might see it as a waste of time and effort for not much advantage.

When your contract expires nothing will change from O2, they will still bill you every month and you will get the same allowance you are currently getting unless you contact them to cancel.

You can upgrade to a 3GS but expect to pay exactly the same for an upgrade as everyone else. I would recommend going onto a no obligation Simplicity SIM only contract and waiting for the next generation iPhone which should arrive in June / July.

With Orange and Vodafone also selling the iPhone it will be interesting to see what deals will be available so don't rush to re-sign with O2 in January.

I hope you are right, I have a feeling that Orange and Vodaphone will offer the exact same prices on the iPhone as O2 and we will still be lumbered with the same contracts as we have now.

Orange have hinted that the total cost of owership over the contract's length will be about £100 less than what o2 offers at the moment.

I too am in the same boat as the OP. I am going to a no obligation deal till June to see if a new iPhone comes out. At that point I will contact all 3 to see who offers the best deal.

That said I will be talking to all three in jan to see if o2 offer a silly deal to stop me from straying to one of the other two. Also VOdafone or orange may want to really tempt me.

I guess talk to all three in jan and see if they offer anything that floats your boat. If not, wait till June
