Hi all

I currently have an unlocked iphone with a contract sim on o2 that includes the web bolt on.
Does anyone know the apn settings to get this to work on the iphone and also does anyone know if o2 will charge me extra for using the internet from an iphone.
I rang o2 and they said the bolt on cannot be used on an iphone & i need an iphone specific contract to cover this.

Much thanks for any help

Joe.

I have an unlocked iphone with O2. I have a Simplicity pay-monthly SIM with the unlimited Web bolt-on.

You can buy the SIM and the bolt-on with no issues about what the phone is or is not.

PS I did not need to mess about with apn settings or anything else.

Thanks for the reply, so I definitely wont get charged extra using the internet on my iphone with the web bolt on? Just want to be sure as the carphone warehouse guy said it would, im sure he was just trying to scare me :)

I just pay the Simplicity £15 monthly tariff, and £7.50 monthly for unlimited Web. Never had any problems. I use Safari, mail, maps etc.

And the phone doesn't actually need to be unlocked for it to accept the Simplicity SIM, though mine is unlocked as I sometimes put a Tesco SIM in it instead.

PS you get the best Simplicity tariffs buying off the O2 website rather than in a shop.

You don't have to use a Simplicty SIM.

You don't have to use any special SIM for the iPhone.

Get a normal prepaid SIM and add the £7.50 Web bolt-on. You may need to change your APN, etc. to the below information:

APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Username: vertigo
Password: password

Other than that, you won't need to do anything special.

Hi

Would you be able to give me the APN settings in the Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data tab please?

I have the same simplicity SIM with the web bolt on but can't find the correct settings!

Thanks for your help
Daniel

I was using a Simplicity sim like this for months and it's fine. O2 even tell you what you need to set you APN details to on the iPhone if you haven't got an iPhone contract. The link below has the O2 settings for Pay and Go and non iPhone contract sims.

O2 Settings

thanks for reply!

I'm currently not in the UK so O2 are blocking me from accessing the link but will check it out when I'm back

Yup, it's "mobile.o2.co.uk", username = vertigo, password = password

O2 may charge you if you exceed the fair usage data policy attached to the Simplicity Bolt on. The limit is something like 200MB per month.

To put this into perspective, I've been using around 20MB of data on my new iPhone every day...

the best thing to do is get a simplicity deal if you can directly from o2 and get a blackberry bolt on put on instead of the 'unlimited web' bolt on.

Reason being, the unlimited web bolt on is subject to fair usage of around 250MB. The blakcberry is twice that, plus all emails sent and recieved.

Only deciding point is the £2.50 extra for the bb bolt on.

If your billed by carephone warehouse on o2 you wont be able to use that sim in your iphone and browse, only calls and sms.

If your looking for pay as you go and dont have the sim, o2 is the only place to get the pay &go sim as cpw dnt sell it by itself.
