The autographed basketball was a gift to the Chinese vice-premier who was in town as part of a much larger delegation to the Chinese-American summit that's going on right now involving Treasury Secretary Geithner and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton amongst a host of others.

A smaller group of Chinese leaders met in the Oval Office for discussions where the photo was taken afterwards. This is part of how international leaders do their business, regardless of who or where they are. Small gifts, greasing the wheels.

@Blue: Thanks for the update! It makes much more sense now! :)
I love how the ball has his logo and Obama '08 on it :D Very nice touch!

You can't honestly expect him to work 24/7, can you? The guy needs a break just like anyone else.

The republicans are just running out of things to bitch about.
It's not about political affiliation and no, I don't expect him to work 24/7. My comment, demo, was in response to someone actually saying another member was insensitive. I believe both parties do equal amount of bitching, which is why I am neither. ;)

Well it depends on what he meant in that statement. Did he mean that how they looked in the picture was a joke because both do look pretty funny in that picture. Or did he mean Obama is a joke because he is entertaining foreign politicians while they are in town instead of doing his job 24/7( which entertaining foreign politicians is part of his job description, IMHO). While both are not insensitive, I will disagree with him if he meant it as the latter.
