Hello!

I have gone through the screencasts on Obj -C and i have a basic understanding of it, I have fooled around with it a bit and am reasonably comfortable/scared of coding in it, now what is my next step in my journey to start iphone programming?

Should i start on "writing your first iphone application" or.... ?

Cool, will do!

While waiting for the book, any suggestions?
Any online links?
Any docs you think i should really brush up on?

Kind of like finishing school... are you ready for the next step? did you prepare enough? Are you gonna crash and burn? are you gonna look like an idiot (to yourself)?

Basically, i want to be as ready as possible once i start on developing for the iphone so that there is no chance of me giving up... failing.

Ok, so it sounds stupid... but am scared:eek:

Think of it like passing your driving test. Its impossible to be FULLY prepared and the only way to really learn is to actually drive and gain experience.

Programming is exactly the same and sitting worrying about not being ready enough is going to get you nowhere. The best thing you can do is start making small applications and work your way upwards. You can read as much material as you like but that information will not sink in until you start using it

That's part of the process - don't hold yourself back havinga go and things not working - that's a big part of learning initially to code - problem solving what went wrong, learning from it.

DOn't make it a big deal, doodle with it, play with it, have fun, relax, and back up your important files regularly.

Hey!

Thanks for the support!

Just nervous i guess.. learning a lot at the same time, never had a Mac, bought one second hand, learned C years back and quit when i was in the middle of pointers... now learning Objective -C (pointers everywhere), and cocoa... and still "learning" the Mac (though it getting easier.. getting used it I guess).. then am going to add to that by putting iphone programming on top of that.
F***! I need a vacation!:p

Welcome aboard..!!!

Without out thinking twice..buy this book..

http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-iPhone-Development-Exploring-SDK/dp/1430216263

This should help you decided on your next step....!!!

Good luck...

I know this thread has been put to sleep, but had to come back here and say thank you for that link...
In all honesty I pirated that book from TPB because of bad past experiences with people recommending me books (including authors of said books) only to buy it and see that it was mildly, or not helpful at all, but this book is really really good and i have now purchased it to support the author.

Im in chapter 5 now, and i think thats enough of a try before you buy ;)

Cheers!
