I just wanted to report that Oblivion for Windows runs perfectly, in Boot Camp, on my MacBook Pro (July 07) 2.4GHz 4GB nVidia 8600M GT 256MB.

I'm running at the native 1440x900 in Ultra-High settings with 8x Anti-aliasing. No glitches at all and only using the standard Apple drivers from the Leopard install CD. I've also driven a 1920x1200 external display with no perceptible issues.

I have a penryn 2.4 with 2GB and I do have to tweak down the trees, objects, actors distance to get smooth framerate outside. And I keep AA off. You put everything through the roof and get smooth framerate?

My experience has been smooth... I did tweak Windows a bit though:

- Turn off Advanced Text Services
- Turn off System Restore

The only upgrades to the base MBP are 4GB and 200GB 7200rpm drive.

On my PS3 I find that Oblivion acts a little pokey with fires... but I haven't seen that problem with the MBP. I'll try to post actual framerates later (have to install fraps).

fyi: 25-30 fps while running outdoors, as measured using 'fraps'. Settings are 8x anti-aliasing 1440x900.

I have been having problems with Oblivion working on mine. I have a MacBook Pro, 2.2 Ghz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB RAM, GeForce 8600M GT.

I run bootcamp, install Windows XP, I install Oblivion - no problem there. The problem occurs when I start Oblivion. I get this:

"Failed to initialize renderer. NiXAdapterDesc::GetDeviceCaps()failed."

It seems to happen to a few people and I'm wondering what I need to do? Is it a hardware issue? Do I need to install DirectX 9?

I'd really appreciate some help as I love Oblivion and to see it sit redundant when it is so close and yet so far is a little torturous.

Maybe you need to update your video drivers. laptopvideo2go.com has compatible drivers available. You download the driver and a modified INF file and then install away.

Are you using an ntfs or fat32 format? I'm wondering if it's possible to get Oblivion onto a fat32, since it seems to be a 1 CD install over 4GB in size

Of course Fat32 will still work. The 4gb limit is for single files only.
And this thread is a little strange. Of course Oblivion will run fast on a powerful machine! It's an old(ish) game now.

When you installed the game, did the installer offer to install DX? This MacRumors Windows Gaming on a Mac Guide might help determine what version of DX you have.

BTW I run Oblivion on my MBP without issues other than the game sometimes acts like it crashes when I quit it. When you find the answer a post would be appreciated so I can add it to the Mac Rumors Oblivion Tips and Cheats Guide.
