Maybe some of you have experience playing Oblivion on a MBP and PS3. What version would you recommend? I have a PS3 now and will be buying a MBP next update.

My biggest concern is controls. Does the PS3 control fine or do you prefer a keyboard and mouse? Also, does the MBP get very warm? I'm not too worried about graphics; they can both run the game great.

Thanks,

I have it for PS3 and it works very very nicely. I would recommend it for PS3 just because of the graphics (I know you said it doesn't matter to you), but when running it on a bigger screen it makes a huge difference. That is assuming you have a screen bigger than that of your MBP right? Not to mention the game itself was refined and tuned for better graphics on the PS3, that is why it was released later than the 360.

As far as controls I have had no problems and am happy with the setup. My only problem is it takes about 5 minutes of getting used to after coming from a game like COD4 or Resistance, but in other words the controls are fine. There aren't really a whole bunch of advanced controls for the game, so I imagine it would be fine if not better using keyboard or mouse, but the difference is miniscule and I think it is better for PS3 for the graphics etc.

Ok, thanks for the advice! As a matter of fact, i have a 52" Bravia... and 5.1 surround sound... so i guess it would blend nicely. My biggest concern was the controls, but from what i'm hearing thats not a problem! I'll buy it when im done school the end of the month :D

Whoa your setup is making me jealous! I have a 40" Samsung 1080p, it is very nice but I would like a bigger screen someday and actual surround. Yeah with a setup like that you have to get the PS3 version :D it will make for a much better experience overall. The quality of your setup alone is enough to make it worth it to get the PS3 version, not to mention I have a feeling you will adapt nicely to the controls.

And do you plan on getting the regular version or the Game of the Year version with the two expansions? I got the GOTY and regretted it a little at first since the regular 30$ version is already a massive game and I don't play it as much as I should (I spent all my time in COD4) but I think that once things cool down with COD4 I will be able to really get into the game, in which case I will be glad I spent the extra cash. So it all boils down to how much time you spend in the game. I read somewhere that the GOTY edition, once completely played out, adds up to a whopping 240 hours!

I'd get it for the MBP purely based on the price. It's mega cheap on PC now.

The PC version is utterly and totally superior to either of the console versions for one overarching reason: Mod support. There are mods out to fix and improve every single problem and complaint that you could think of for the game. Fix the broken scaled leveling system? Sure. Better graphics and weather? Sure. More creatures? Sure. Improved character models? Arright.

You get NONE of that on the PS3 or 360.

I'm saying this as someone who's currently playing the game on the PS3; it's fun either way, but if you have the hardware to run it, definitely spring for the PC version.

I have Oblivion on a PC and I have a PS3 with COD4. The hardest thing for me is getting used to FPS type games using a console game controller as I am a keyboard and mouse game player going back to the late 80's.

I find console game controllers do not provide the same level of precision I get from a keyboard and mouse. But a lot of this I'm sure is just me being set in my ways. :D If anyone knows of a way to use a keyboard and mouse with games like COD4 on a PS3 I would be interested in learning how.

With that said the graphics from the PS3 on HD are great. In the end you should go with whatever works best for you. Perhaps you could try playing Oblivion on a PS3 somewhere and see if you like using the PS3 game controller for this type of play.
