I do podcasting/live streaming from my late 2019 16"mpb. It has way more than enough power and is quieter than the laptop it replaced, but I've been itching to get something quieter when it's actually under load. While it's basically silent when I'm just derping around in firefox, once I get OBS open and start live streaming (to 4 places at once), the fans kick in and the battery dies within an hourish if I don't have it plugged in.

I'm trying to find some videos online but I keep finding people comparing synthetic benchmarks but very little in terms of stress testing when it comes to the fans. I know it's way more than powerful enough to handle it, the question is just volume. Anyone with some real experience able to share how loud it gets under sustained gpu intensive tasks? Thank you!

We still have some quirks regarding using OBS: you have to go to github and download their nightly builds for Apple Silicon native versions, as their latest release is still targeting Intel only. Native supported is there but they did not make an official release yet. Using the native version, I cannot hear the fan at all during streaming on my 14 inch M1 Max, using the Apple VT H264 encoder, though I did not tried to push to 4 places at once.
