I'm no conspiracy theorist or whatsoever, but a simple and humble mac user since May 2013.

So I got my Mac Retina back in May 2013 in NY. So far, so good.

Yet I have not updated my OS for a while (currently using 10.9.5). It works like a charm, or almost as it sometimes freezes...
I am thinking about updating my mac because I need to install new software (eg: Final Cut).

Will it SLOW down my computer as recent OS requires more attention/rnergy from my mac?

Or even, will it slowly KILL my computer?

Thanks dudes!

Really appreciate your feedback.

I can only speak to my personal experience, but I've never installed an Apple OS update that hurt the performance of my notebook. In fact, I have on occasion seen minor increases in battery longevity from updates. I'm typing this post with a mid-2012 base model MacBook Air running version 10.12. I wouldn't be concerned.

Just do a time machine backup and hen update. If it doesn't work out, just restore your time machine. I think you will be pretty safe though.

Did you guys ever experience a slow-down of your machine after latest update to your mac with +3 years wear/old.

The only time OS X ever slowed down a computer for me was 10.6 > 10.7. Lion was awful, the Windows Vista of OS X. Everything else has either been an improvement or at least not any worse than before performance-wise.

I thought Yosemite on my late 2010 MacBook Air was dreadful.
The next update El Capitain ran much better, and I am reluctant to go to Sierra..may just leave it as it is.
It works well enough for my uses and none of the new features really appeal to me.

So in answer to your question; yes, it can sometimes slow things down but generally speaking things run a little better. Make a backup before you upgrade and you can always go back if it is not as good as you had hoped.
