I probably won’t be catching it live, but I’ll certainly be watching the highlight vids as soon as I can.

Says something when the rumored prices of Google’s products, specifically the Pixel 2 XL and Pixelbook, make you think Apple products aren’t that expensive.

A 13” MBP with 512GB SSD is actually cheaper than the comparably equipped Pixelbook.

Yeah, seriously. I would get a MacBook way before I get a Pixelbook at those prices. It's not even a contest.

Supply constraints, the new trend:

The Verge:
Google’s biggest Pixel 2 problem will be making enough of them

It’s no trifling matter, this mobile hardware business

I still don't think Google wants to fully compete in hardware. I think this is a means of keeping it's toe in the water. It's a very expensive marketing campaign for their services.

Makes one appreciate what Samsung does on the hardware end of things.

Samsung manages not to have these problems and is the number one smart phone company in the world.

Pays to actually be the fabricator of underlying tech it seems.

Not only that, I still think Samsung represents the best value for your money. With promos and fast discounts, you still get industry leading hardware, extra features on top of a stable Android OS foundation, and the choice of a no-compromise smaller model.

And yeah, no shortages! Not even any real issues with delivering top-quality curved display panels. Samsung is a machine. They have a clear and simple flagship lineup, too: the S8 and S8 Plus, and for power-users/S-pen lovers, the Note 8. Simple. No compromised models like the Pixel 2 and 2 XL. No special and expensive device oddly introduced in the same year as the iPhone 8, like the X. Anything else Samsung has is for niche and targeted markets (like the Active, etc.).

I made this comment in the Pixel 2 thread: Google simply doesn't appear to be ready. As promising as what they're offering sounds in theory, they simply don't have their ducks lined up in a row yet. We still have to see how the HTC acquisition plays out, too. And now the report of supply constraints for the Pixel 2...

Anyway, we'll see it all be official in a few! Good luck, Google.

"Come check out a few new things made by Google...or not, it's up to you really, no pressure, I hear Apple makes nice phones too."

Could they hype this up any less?

Absolutely spot on

If I had a dime for every time someone said the words "machine learning" at one of these things over the last 12 months, I'd have enough money to buy Google.
After reading this, all I've been able to hear during this keynote is "machine learning." It sticks out like a sore thumb. :p
