hi,
I just bought the Samsung gear vr to use it with my s6 edge and it is great, especially for viewing netflix-films lying on may back ..and may be some games.
so I ask me, is there any apple equivalent available or coming ?

Personally, I'm not convinced by the use-your-smartphone-as-the-viewer class of VR. When I decide to buy one, I think Id rather have a standalone headset.

Anyway, based on the following page, Zeiss VR One, Freefly VR, and Google Cardboard seem to be options that support use of an iPhone as the viewer.

Out of curiosity, can you charge your phone whilst you're using it in a Samsung VR headset?

standalone devoces probaply better ... but for 99$ it's a no brainer

the difference to Zeis & co. are the :

usb connector between phone and gear vr / and gear vr and the charger
oculus software that makes the 3D View ( screen is "stereoskopic" partitioned )
the touchpad and the "back"-button on the right side of the gear vr

it is a complete solution, not to compare to the experience of putting the iphone 6s into the Zeiss Device

For portable and price purposes, it awesome. It's hard to convince anyone until they try it.

Yes, the consumer version has a USB passthrough.

The Gear VR is the best portable one at the moment. But I do wonder if Zeiss and the other brands have better controller support. That's something Oculus or Samsung screwed up on.

I'm probably going to be picking up a VR oculus as well. $99 is a low price to pay for something new and innovative in the tech world.

It's pretty neat, I picked up a cheap one from BB, $35 open box. Paired with a moga controller it's great. It's VERY limited by software though, virtually all of the games are really only short tech demos. The best game on the platform, Quake VR, is really just hacked onto there. The cinema stuff is cool though, Netflix, 3d videos, etc. I could see loving this on a long plane ride.
